Notice of Meeting
Proposed Training Completion Assurance Fund
May 29, 2002
This notice is given to all private career
colleges in Ontario to announce that a meeting to discuss the final
proposal for the establishment of a Training Completion Assurance
Fund (TCAF) is being held in the Alexander Room
of the Courtyard by Marriott Hotel, 475 Yonge Street, Toronto on May
29, 2002 between the hours of
9:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m.
In the Fall of 2001, all private career
colleges were invited to attend the TCIF
Forum in Toronto to provide input on the creation of an organization
that would be responsible for
implementing a formal trainout process for students
that are impacted by the sudden closure of a career college.
At the conclusion of the Forum, a steering
committee was formed and given the
task of pulling together all of the input received in an effort to
produce a formal trainout
proposal. The goal was for the steering committee to
submit the proposal to the Ontario Government in early May 2002, and
also to seek
ratification of the proposal from the career college industry at an
all-industry meeting prior to
the OACC AGM on May 29, 2002.
The steering committee has now completed its
work and a recommendation for the
establishment of an organization to be known as the Training
Completion Assurance
Fund is being tabled with the Government during the week of May
13, 2002. Following that
consultation with Government, the steering committee
will post the proposal document on the temporary web site and
direct all career colleges to
the appropriate web site page so that they can download
the document for reading in preparation for the May 29, 2002
presentation of the salient
points regarding the fund.
If ratification of the TCAF proposal by
those in attendance is achieved, the steering
committee will then ask the attendees to elect an interim Board of
Directors to manage the process
of incorporation and implementation of TCAF until
such time as it is appropriate to elect the actual Governing Board.
Given the significance of this proposal, the
steering committee urges all private
career colleges to attend and participate on May 29.
If your career college will be represented
at the TCAF meeting on May 29, please
